THURSDAY HEADLINES.....

NEWS

* A well-known radio voice in the Bay Area, who has been silent for some time now, admitted in court to distributing child porn by email. Bernie Ward's deal will result in a prison term of at least five years. Ward, who was fired from KGO-AM 810 last December, was charged last year with two counts of distributing and one count of receiving child porn.

* Traffic heading into Mexico from San Diego at the San Ysidro border crossing on I-5 was tighter than usual for several hours as federal agents searched vehicles heading south. The inspections have been beefed up recently as authorities search for drugs, stolen cars and weapons.

* California Department of Fish and Game Officers are working to stave off a coyote-humans problem in the Inland Empire. In recent days, there have been several encounters with coyotes in San Bernardino County.

SPORTS

* The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres both came up on the short end of 5-4 decisions on the road at Pittsburgh and Atlanta, respectively.
