FRIDAY HEADLINES.....

NEWS

* With insufficient evidence with which to work with, prosecutors say they will not file charges against several men who were accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female in 2007 during a party at the residence of a De Anza College baseball player. The case has been investigated for close to a year, but there was not enough credible evidence to proceed. The alleged victim in the case reportedly does not remember what happened at the residence, where authorities say alcohol was involved. The school suspended eight players on the baseball team for reportedly violating the team's code of conduct. De Anza is a community college located in Cupertino.

* A Chula Vista man entered a guilty plea in the abduction of his pregnant 16-year-old ex-girlfriend. Carlos Omar Antonio, 20, pleaded guilty to child abduction and assault with a deadly weapon, in the kidnapping that took place on March 8. He faces up to two years in prison at his July 9 sentencing.

* California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced the arrest of a Desert Hot Springs resident for allegedly defrauding his insurance company of $26,000. Robert Andrew Nelson, 44, was arrested in Cathedral City on April 28 on charges of filing a false police report and knowingly presenting a fraudulent insurance claim.
