NEWS

* Some 70 to 75 students, local gang members and others were arrested in a major drug raid at San Diego State University. Drugs that included cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamines, along with guns, were confiscated in the raid. The months-long sting operation follows the death one year ago today of a female SDSU student who died of a drug overdose. Several fraternities on campus have been shut down as a result of the raid.

A California teenager involved in a fatal street racing accident in Pico Rivera last year pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter and four counts of reckless driving causing specified injury. Deputy District Attorney Duke Chau of Pomona Branch Office said Fitzgerald Paragas, 18, is due back for sentencing on June 20 by Judge Daniel Buckely in Dept. E of Pomona Superior Court. * A longtime Santa Monica middle school teacher was charged with 14 felony counts for allegedly molesting several female students at Lincoln Middle School. Thomas Beltran, who pleaded not guilty, was arrested last weekend after a 12-year-old accused him of reportedly molesting her.

SPORTS

* The Los Angeles Angels banged out 15 hits en route to a 5-3 win at Kansas City. Meantime, San Francisco dropped a 12-6 decision at Pittsburgh, while San Diego fell 5-3 in Atlanta.
