The California mother who was arrested three decades after authorities say she escaped a Michigan prison pled guilty to an escape charge Tuesday. In doing so, Susan LeFevre will be sentenced on Sept. 24 in Wayne County, Michigan.
LeFevre was returned to Michigan earlier this year after authorities were tipped off to her whereabouts. The 53-year-old was married and had raised a family with her husband in San Diego.
LeFevre is presently serving at least 5 1/2 years of what was left on her original sentence in Michigan for selling heroin more than 30 years ago.
Authorities claim LeFevre had only served about one year of a 10- to 20-year sentence before scaling a prison fence in 1976 and starting a life on the run.
The news for Susan LeFevre got a little bit worse on Monday.
The former Carmel Valley resident, who was arrested 32 years after fleeing a Michigan prison on a drug conviction, was charged today by Michigan authorities with escape.
LeFevre, 53, who is already back in Michigan serving at least 5 1/2 years of her remaining sentence for selling heroin, couldd receive another five years behind bars or probation if convicted of the escape charge.
LeFevre, who is married and the mother of three, had served approximately one year of a 10- to 20-year sentence before walking out of jail in 1976.
She assumed a new identity, Marie Walsh, in San Diego and raised a family, before someone turned her in to authorities earlier this year.

The lawyers for Susan LeFevre, 53, a mother of three, claim she received an illegal and improper sentence of 10 to 20 years after pleading guilty to heroin charges back in 1974. The lawyers say that all heroin offenders got the same sentence back then, a "secret" policy. Her attorney said such a policy was later deemed illegal by Michigan's Supreme Court. The claim was filed in a Michigan court yesterday.
The law caught up with LeFevre, who escaped a Michigan cell back in 1976, earlier this year in Carmel Valley.
LeFevre had been living under the identity of Marie Walsh. She was married to a doctor and raising three girls.
For a little over three decades, Susan LeFevre, alias Marie Walsh, lived a pretty nice life on the run, including time in San Diego.
The suburban housewife raised three kids and enjoyed her life in the Carmel Valley home she shared with her husband. Then late last month, that world came to a crashing end.
You see, LeFevre was wanted in Michigan on drug and conspiracy convictions.
LeFevre had simply walked away after only serving one year of a longer sentence in a Detroit-area House of Corrections back in the mid-1970s and began her new life. That is until authorities finally caught up with her.
Now, she is back in Michigan to begin serving at least five-and-a-half years on the drug conviction she walked away from decades ago. Her lawyer will reportedly petition the Michigan governor to commute the sentence.
We believe she should serve out the remainder of her sentence. Not only is it the law, but it would set a good example for her three children that their mom is a responsible person.
