Authorities still do not know what led to the collapse of a sand dune on Saturday afternoon in Santa Cruz that killed an 11-year-old boy.
According to authorities, three boys were trapped beneath the dune at Natural Bridges State Beach after they had reportedly been digging there.
The two boys who escaped the collapse were 9 and 10 years old. Volunteers tried to rescue the third boy, but were unable to.
