Animal Rights Activists Suspected in Firebombs

A pair of firebombings against University of California, Santa Cruz biologists have authorities looking at suspected animal rights activists.

Over the weekend, a firebomb hit the home of biology professor David Feldheim, forcing him and his family to flee. The other firebomb exploded minutes earlier, destroying a car of a second researcher parked outside his campus home.

Feldheim reportedly uses mice in laboratory research for brain formation. That attack is being viewed as an act of terrorism and attempted murder.

Authorities say the firebomb used in the Feldheim case is similar to those used by animal rights extremists in prior attacks.
