Although it took nearly a year for identification, authorities now say that a skull and bones discovered in a dry riverbed near Santiago Canyon Road last September are those of an Anaheim woman who disappeared in 2004.
Cindy Casteel Mathieu, 42, went missing in August of 2004 after reportedly leaving a family gathering with her husband, Don Mathieu. Although the husband was at one time deemed a "person of interest" in his wife's disappearance, he has never been charged. The husband has not been notified that the remains are those of his wife. According to police, they cannot locate the husband at this time.
Authorities say determining a cause of death is not likely due to the condition of the remains.
