Authorities arrested a former FBI agent after more than a year of surveillance and charged him with plans to rob a drug money stash house in Orange County.
According to reports, Vo Duong Tran, who worked out of the bureau's Chicago office, was arrested by an FBI SWAT team outside a hotel in Fountain Valley late Monday after traveling from New Orleans to carry out the robbery. Tran reportedly had an accomplice, Yu Sung Park, who was also arrested at the same time.
Tran, who back in 2002 filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the FBI after 11 years of service, reportedly planned to steal money from a Mexican drug courier and drug money from the stash house.
While suspended from the FBI in 2001 for reportedly accepting a bribe, he was charged in Illinois by prosecutors with impersonating a peace officer. He was later acquitted of those charges.
Tran was fired from the FBI in 2003.
